Wild rice is actually a grass seed and needs longer cooking. Rinse briefly, then use about 1 cup wild rice to 3 cups water or broth. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, and cook uncovered for 40–50 minutes until kernels split open and are tender but chewy.
For firmer kernels, reduce cooking time slightly. Combine with white rice for quicker cooking and more tender results in mixed dishes.
