Use a microwave-safe bowl with a loose-fitting lid. For white rice, combine 1 cup rinsed rice with 1.5 cups water and a pinch of salt. Cover (leave a small vent) and microwave on high for 10–12 minutes, depending on microwave power.
Let sit covered for 5–10 minutes to steam. Fluff with a fork before serving.
For brown rice increase water to 2 cups and microwave 18–22 minutes; rest 10 minutes. Microwaves vary, so test times with small batches and adjust accordingly.
